About

👋 Hi, I’m Jiyoung Kim — a senior data scientist who likes taking messy, real-world data and turning it into things people can actually use. These days I work mostly on financial crime and fraud problems, helping teams spot bad behavior in large streams of transactions and alerts. I’ve lived, studied and worked in both South Korea, France and Poland, so I’m pretty used to navigating different cultures, ways of working, and mixed teams. I get most excited about machine learning and AI that are explainable and trustworthy, especially when they help people make better decisions in high‑stakes, highly regulated environments.

What I do

  • Senior Data Scientist @ ING Hubs: Build data flows and PySpark ETL on transaction and alerts data, turning them into KRI/KPI metrics and monitoring dashboards in Streamlit and Power BI for AML, fraud, and risk-based monitoring.
  • Clinical Data Scientist @ AstraZeneca (past): Applied R and SQL to turn clinical trial protocols into analysis code and Spotfire dashboards that track key metrics and surface safety signals.
  • Cloud Migration Business Developer Intern @ AWS (past): Performed quantitative analysis on cloud migration pipelines, built Python crawlers for market intelligence, and supported data-driven commercial strategy.
  • Communication: Translate statistical and analytical results into clear narratives and work with product, risk, and operations stakeholders to turn insights into decisions.

Tools I reach for

  • Programming & data 💻: Python, PySpark, SQL, R, Excel, cron, Bash.
  • Dashboards & apps 📊: Streamlit, Spotfire, Power BI, PowerApps.
  • Workflow & delivery ⚙️: Git, JIRA, MS Azure DevOps.
  • Cloud ☁️: AWS, GCP

What you’ll find here

  • Today I Learned (TIL): Short notes on concepts and theory.
  • Project Diary: Build logs and experiments.
  • Occasionally: career notes, data product ideas, and things I’m testing.

Education

  • M.S. in Advanced Analytics – Big Data, SGH Warsaw School of Economics
